Destiny's six-person Raid, called Vault of Glass, does not feature the option for matchmaking with strangers - a controversial decision the developer took because it wanted players to plan and tackle the tougher mission with friends. At the time Bungie writer Luke Smith said he could "understand everyone's frustration about the decision So, what's to be done?
Raids, Nightfall Events, and Trials will be available to all players in Destiny 2 through matchmaking. During the reveal event, Bungie explained that it was a miracle that some of the tasks in Destiny were completed, which included the Raids and Nightfall Strikes. But these toughest challenges also required that you team up with people you knew or met online, in other words there was no matchmaking for Raids or Nightfall Strikes.

I recently got into weekly strikes to do but I dislike having to go soloing them because I don't really like inviting people to my fire team and its kinda harder than it should be because of that. How come they have put in a matchmaking system for the Weekly Strike but not the Nightfall Weekly? Initially neither Weekly nor Nightfall had match-making. Public outcry eventually made them change on the Weekly, but they're still holding to their decision on Nightfall.

The release of Destiny 2: Forsaken will bring about some key changes to matchmaking — including Guided Games — as well as a shakeup to the clan rewards structure. Bungie has revealed a couple of decent upgrades the matchmaking and Guided Games experience in Destiny 2 will be getting with Forsaken. There are some exceptions to this, like lopsided PvP matches, or ones that ended with a mercy rule.
Many Destiny players made their voices heard regarding the difficulty of finding fellow Guardians to join their fireteams for the weekly events and raids, resorting to outside resources such as Reddit and DestinyLFG. In the most recent patchin addition to a few long overdue bug fixesBungie brought matchmaking to the Weekly Heroic Strike. Some gamers enjoy the challenge, and prefer being in control of the strike without anyone tagging along.
